CaAKG
Research Summary
Calcium Alpha-Ketoglutarate (CaAKG) is a stable, bioavailable supplement form of alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG). AKG is a naturally occurring, essential endogenous metabolite found in the Krebs (TCA) cycle, making it fundamental to cellular energy production. While AKG is naturally produced by the body, its levels decline dramatically—up to 10-fold between the ages of 40 and 80. Because free AKG has a very short half-life and poor oral bioavailability, attaching it to a calcium salt (CaAKG) enhances its stability and absorption in the digestive tract. Today, CaAKG is one of the most prominent molecules in longevity and anti-aging research due to its potential to compress morbidity (shorten the time spent suffering from age-related diseases) and promote cellular rejuvenation.
